Patterson suspended five game for sex assault plea
July 13, 2001
NEW YORK (AP) -- Former Seattle SuperSonics forward Ruben Patterson was suspended for five games without pay by the NBA on Friday for pleading guilty to a sexual offense.
Patterson, a free agent, was sentenced in May to a year in jail with all but 15 days suspended under a modified guilty plea to an attempted rape charge. Under the plea, Patterson did not admit guilt but agreed a jury might convict him.
Patterson was accused of attempting to rape the family's nanny in September at the family home in suburban Bellevue.
Patterson also was placed on two years' probation, and ordered to register as a sex offender if he remains in Washington.
The 6-foot-5, 224-pound averaged 13 points and five rebounds in 76 games last season. He was suspended for three games in February because of an assault conviction for breaking a man's jaw in Cleveland.

And Anthony Mason got busted (again) for supposedly attacking a woman. I wonder if the two are still high on the Mavs' short list.

the Mavs have a great chemistry going. Is it worth taking the chance of destroying that chemistry to bring in either of them? IMO - yes.

I imagine this has them thinking twice about bringing them on. Patterson could already be scratched off, but they may wait and see what comes of the Mason thing.

I think it's the other way around. I have a feeling Patterson will end up in Dallas soon enough, especially since the Sonics are so eager to dump him.

I can't imagine Patterson or Mason affecting the attitude of Finley, Dirk, or Nash. The rest of the team can be replaced.

If we bring Anthony Mason into Dallas, we're going to regret it...

No, the big three's attitude won't change at all...
they're the glue that will keep the clubhouse together, regardless of who's brought in

... maybe it´s because I have some distance to the things looking at it from Germany, but I don´t even think Maze is such a bad guy. He may be a very good addition to the team.
Remember - CWebb wasn´t known for his PLAY before he came to Sac-to either ...

That's not what I've heard about Mason at all. I've heard the guy's just a scumbag to the core- a criminal off the court, and an antisocial bastard in the locker-room. In all the teams he's gone to, just about none of his teammates have ever liked him, and the fans are always happy to see him gone...

well..they were doing a piece on him on one some tv station during the football season...talking about him and his brother..
well, i guess they sugar coated everything about him quite a bit.....made him out to be a misunderstood guy...you know, the same old b.s.
well, maybe he's a thug as well as a dumb idiot that's always in trouble
could be both

From the way it seems, as long as there are no women on the court, we should be ok. They're fine when they step off the court, it's when they step off.
