This is huge soccer news....wow.
Man U accepts offer in principle
Soccernet news services
Barcelona has made a $49 million offer to bring David Beckham to Spain, the British newspaper the Sunday Express reported Sunday.
The report indicates that Manchester United has accepted the offer in principle after preliminary talks with Barca representatives.
The Catalan giants cannot make a firm bid for Beckham until the new club president is unveiled after the club's elections on June 15.
Prospective Barca president Joan Laporta told the Sunday Express: "I view this as a great price for Beckham. He is one of the few players in the world capable of earning the money back for you in commercial revenue alone."
AC Milan is reported to be willing to match Barca's offer, while Inter Milan, Roma and Real Madrid have also been linked with the 28-year-old England captain.
United chief executive Peter Kenyon recently confirmed that the club would listen to offers for the midfielder.
Beckham, who is on holiday in America with his family, has stated that he wants to stay at Old Trafford.

I'm surprised no one has posted anything about this yet. David Beckham is on his way to Real Madrid.

It's a done deal. 41 million.
Not too many soccer fans around here I'm afraid. Just a few of us.

I thought at least the Europeans would be more into it than the Americans. Oh well, should be interesting to see how he does in Spain.

I'm sure he will be just as dominant there as always. Is he fully healed yet?

Don't know if he's fully healed now(I would think so), but he's making his Real debut August 2 in China.

This is the biggest news in the world. Beckham is more well known in Japan than Michael Jordan.

As a soccer player Beckham isn´t worth 41 mil at all. He´s highly overrated. And Real doesn´t need a player like him, they need a couple of good defensive players. So why did they buy him? Money money money. Actually as a marketing figure Beckham is worth much more then the 41 mil. It´s sad but that´s the way sports work nowadays.
But actually I´m glad Real got Beckham. He won´t help them too much and I absolutely hate that team.

Say it aint so Becks! The only reason hes at Real is so that guy could use him as a tool to get elected at the teams front office or something. I think hes a top 5 player in the world and old trafford will never be the same.

Sorry but he´s not even top 5 on his new team. Zidane, Raul, Ronaldo, Figo, Carlos are all better. Maybe even Makelele, Guti and Conceicao but I think he´s on par with them. If Real gets Ronaldinho too Beckham will have a hard time to even crack the starting formation of Real. He will start the first few games to sell some jerseys but after that I wouldn´t bet on it.
England is facing pretty much the same situation as germany right now. They don´t have any real superstars (at least not on the field, off the field Beckham is a superstar). There was a lot of hype during the last worldcup by the english media and what happened? They choked. A good example was Ferdinand who was made up to be the best defender in the world. Yeah my ass, try Nesta and Cannavaro.

Haven't seen European football for 3 years, but I remember Figo. this is the same Figo from FC Barcelona, right? agghh. I didn't like his play nor his team. I got to see a lot of Real Madrid and Manchester United, and they were very good. I wish I could remember their names, there was this one dude on Man United, light skinned black guy, maybe #25, the camaras focused on him a lot. I liked his play. Chelsea was my favorite team though, they had a tremendous goalkeeper, and a pretty darn good (winger, is it?) named Flo. I'm not sure how good he was compared to others at his position, but he was my favorite Chelsea player.
