Default Where were the trades?

I thought there would be 5 or 6 at least.

There were quite a few trades, but it was small stuff. In fact, the biggest trade was the Boston/Memphis one in which they swapped their 2 draft picks.

A lot of picks traded for cash or future picks.

Can the trades happen two or three days after the draft?

I think Memphis let Dick Vitale make those picks for them.

David is on a distinguished road
Default Where were the trades?

I think, early on in the draft, those teams weren't going to trade. At #4-5, a team would have had to severely overpay to get Bosh or Ward. After that, I wonder if it would be worth it, since I think the players available would have "been in the eye of the beholder"(different teams liking different guys). I suspect that teams had so many scenarios out there, that they were hard to keep up with. I think teams were calling up and saying, "if this guy is there, we'll give you this" and I think each drafting team had a lot of deals to sift through and only 5 minutes between picks to make a decision. That's not a lot of time to make a, possibly, franchise changing decision. It makes me wonder if trades aren't made, later, after people see what they have. Raef's BYC goes away in July, I believe, and that might change things, as an example.

Default Where were the trades?

Rather than conjecturing with all sorts of "I think" and "I suspect", I'll just post the trades that actually happened. (Source:ESPN)

Trade tracker: Looking at the deals

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Celtics-Grizzlies
Celtics get: Marcus Banks (No. 13) and Kendrick Perkins (No. 27)
Grizzlies get: Troy Bell (No. 16) and Dahntay Jones (No. 20)
The fallout: Neither Banks at No. 13 or Bell at No. 16 seems to be logical. The Grizzlies needed a strong shooting guard and took a point; the Celtics needed a point and took a shooting guard. But the deal makes things a little easier to understand -- Banks can help run the offense in Boston (and the Celtics made no secret of the fact they wanted him in recent weeks). Perkins is a 6-10, 285-pounder who needs to get a little stronger to be a factor. Bell will be scoring option and Jones will add some defensive toughness in Memphis. "(Banks is) the guy we wanted all along," said new Celtics GM Danny Ainge. "We got two players that, from an athletic standpoint, are at the top of the list in the draft," said Memphis GM Jerry West.

Spurs-Suns
Suns get: Leandrinho Barbosa (No. 28)
Spurs get: Future No. 1 pick
The fallout: Brazilian Barbosa made little sense in San Antonio, which probably needed size over a point guard. As ESPN.com Insider Chad Ford notes, Barbosa has the potential to be a Gary Payton-like player someday. The Suns have a pair of international players in the draft.

Magic-Bucks
Magic get: Keith Bogans (No. 43)
Bucks get: Cash considerations
The fallout: Orlando needed some depth in its backcourt. Bogans gives them some.

Sixers-Sonics
Sixers get: Willie Green (No. 41)
Sonics get: Paccelis Morlende (No. 50) and cash considerations
The fallout: Morlende is a tough defender who, at 6-2, lacks some needed size. Green isn't big, but he's a can drive and shoot well. A nice fit in Philadelphia.

Nets-Sixers
Sixers get: Kyle Korver (No. 51)
Nets get: Cash considerations
The fallout: Korver would have been a nice fit in New Jersey. He'll be a nice fit in Philadelphia, which needed a shooter. And cash spends well at the Meadowlands.

Raptors-Bulls
Raptors get: Matt Bonner (No. 45)
Bulls get: Future second-round pick
The fallout: Bulls couldn't use four rookies. Raptors can look at Bonner, who's a 6-10 shooter that doesn't bring a whole lot else to the table.

Nuggets-Mavericks
Nuggets get: Yuyang Xue (No. 57)
Mavericks get: Future second-round pick
The fallout: Yuyang is a good shooter who plays on the perimeter. He has a soft body, however, and plays a bit like Wang Zhizhi.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will admit that Memphis has got me completely confused. I can understand one reach, but two....in the first round.
